IN JUNE 2025, the Friends of Hall’s Pond gathered to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Brookline’s designation of this pond as a Nature Sanctuary. For five decades, because it is situated in an urban community, this haven for wildlife and vegetation has enriched the lives of adults and children of many cultures. That, in itself, was cause for celebration.

HALL’S POND continues to amaze, amuse and entertain us with its cycle of seasonal changes. If 2023 was marked by abundant summer rains, 2024 was drier and ended in a mild drought. The Sanctuary remained nonetheless exuberantly green. Our flora and fauna cycled through the seasons, and we had regular visits from blue herons and cormorants.

September / October 2003 Newsletter
Hall’s Pond is one of two natural ponds remaining in Brookline. Purchased by the Town in 1975, Hall’s Pond is historically significant for having been owned by Minna Hall, a co-founder of the Massachusetts Audubon Society in 1896. The Hall’s Pond area has long been valued in Brookline for its open space qualities.

Conservation Area Rules and Regulations
Pursuant to Massachusetts General Laws, Chapter 40, Section 8c, as amended, the following rules and regulations governing the use of all the Town of Brookline Conservation Areas under the management of the Conservation Commission of the Town of Brookline have been adopted to insure appropriate use of the areas for the enjoyment and general welfare of the public while protecting the areas in their natural states to serve as wildlife refuges.

Amory Park Field Closures
Even if the fields are closed, you can still walk on the path through Amory Park and then walk the trails in the sanctuary. It’s rare that the sanctuary itself will be closed.
